Craziness

There is a child in this house who loves the camera. Any guesses?

Could there be a better Evan t-shirt?

Purchased at Target. Hilarious (the first word is "I").

Officially a preschooler

Well, Miss Jenna has entered the realms of preschool. She started wearing her backpack around 8 this morning, right after Evan had found it for her. She wouldn't take it off, even to sit in my work chair and watch a Wonder Pets episode on the computer.

Pictures will soon follow ... as soon as I go out and get the camera to download them here.

She seemed a little tired and overwhelmed when I picked her up, but she perked up in the van. She said she had Goldfish for snack, but didn't have anything to drink. Her first craft was a goldfish in a baggie. It is a cute one. It is fun to see the other generation of kids going to preschool now. She is in a class with two other siblings of kids who went to school with Evan and some with McCayla.

It was strange to bring Evan home with me, instead of Jenna. And it was nice because he immediately found something to do, and I could work on a case I had to get back in this morning. And it was different to have him standing in the hallway with me, instead of Jenna. So many times it has been her. Moving on. Hard to do.

So all in all, she had an excellent time. I think we are bypassing dance for her this year, as I realized that I didn't have M in dance until she was ready to turn four. So M was four the entire first year of dance, and was on her way to five for the recital. I think J is a little young for dance right now, and also starting preschool. One thing at a time, I say. I might find a tiny tumblers class for her, though. Just something that doesn't gear her up for some huge recital at the end of the year. That is daunting for a seven year old, let alone a three year old.

The first day

Evan had a very good first day of school. He had a rougher experience getting off the bus and listening to the instructions of the bus driver. But he will learn. He will understand. Because, you know, bus safety is of utmost importance.

We have now moved Evan into Jenna's hold room, and he is in Seventh Heaven. Literally. He spent most of the night last night, arranging things, and actually CLEANED his room. So now the answer to the age-old question of who made the kids' room so messy has been given: it is ALL McCayla.

Evan likes order. Evan likes neatness. Evan is very particular about a lot of things. So Evan is in control of his own domain. He even has a clothing sorter system that has his clothes set out for M-F. He loves it. He loved putting clothes in it.

And I think that is where McCayla had her downfall. That system did not work for her. She could have cared less about it, really.

So now Evan has his room, and Jenna has moved into the bottom bunk, and had a wonderful night last night. Of course, it was shortened when her sister decided that she should climb into bed with her at 6:45 this morning.

Officially screened

Evan is now an officially screened child. He wasn't too sure about the whole thing, and I am really afraid of how he will act when it is school day. I am very nervous, actually.

We came into the room, and he didn't want to look for his seat (which was right there in front of him). Then he spotted it: the manilla folder. And it was all over from there. He was obsessed with it. He wanted it. He wanted to know what was inside it. He wanted to see what I was writing, and what I was writing on. On more than one occasion, he asked me if he could have it, and sulked when he received my answer.

Then it was time for the kids to do their thing, and the parents to do theirs. I got up and took him over to Mrs. Beltz, who was doing the first stage of screening. He was all bummed, thinking he was going to the library right away. He said "but what can I do?" with his shoulders all slouched, and a sour look on his face. I told him he was going to stay in the room, do some things, and then he would go to the library, where I would pick him up.

So I just left him.

I stopped in McCayla's room (who almost stayed home from school today because she was having an attack of "I just found out yesterday that my class is going to put on a production, and I am going to start worrying now about the possibility of being stuck with a solo, and the production probably isn't until April" jitters. She was doing just fine, smiling back at me. Her face was all red, as they had just come in from lunch recess.

So I picked up Evan, and headed out the door.

The first thing he asked for?

That manilla folder.

Happy Birthday, Little Man!

Six years ago today, I was holding my newborn son. Six years ago today, I was the mother of two children under the age of two. Six years ago today, I learned that a mother's love can be spread between two children, because that love is totally different for each child. Six years ago today, we embarked upon what would become the life of Evan Miles Pitt.

Evan, the boy who can touch your heart in a way that no other child could. Evan, the boy who can snuggle with you "just because." Evan, the boy who is a model older brother, teaching his little sister the tricks of the trade. Evan, the boy who is a wonderful young brother, learning new things from his older sister. Evan, the boy who can turn the charm on like a faucet, and turn it off just the same.

Evan ... Happy Sixth Birthday, little man. I am so proud of you for everything that you have accomplished, and looking forward to seeing the things you will pursue and accomplish.

I love you, little man.
