Officially screened
Evan is now an officially screened child. He wasn't too sure about the whole thing, and I am really afraid of how he will act when it is school day. I am very nervous, actually.
We came into the room, and he didn't want to look for his seat (which was right there in front of him). Then he spotted it: the manilla folder. And it was all over from there. He was obsessed with it. He wanted it. He wanted to know what was inside it. He wanted to see what I was writing, and what I was writing on. On more than one occasion, he asked me if he could have it, and sulked when he received my answer.
Then it was time for the kids to do their thing, and the parents to do theirs. I got up and took him over to Mrs. Beltz, who was doing the first stage of screening. He was all bummed, thinking he was going to the library right away. He said "but what can I do?" with his shoulders all slouched, and a sour look on his face. I told him he was going to stay in the room, do some things, and then he would go to the library, where I would pick him up.
So I just left him.
I stopped in McCayla's room (who almost stayed home from school today because she was having an attack of "I just found out yesterday that my class is going to put on a production, and I am going to start worrying now about the possibility of being stuck with a solo, and the production probably isn't until April" jitters. She was doing just fine, smiling back at me. Her face was all red, as they had just come in from lunch recess.
So I picked up Evan, and headed out the door.
The first thing he asked for?
That manilla folder.
